Matthew McAllister returns for another Classic Guitar Retreat, with an option to attend on a single day trip as well as attend concerts. Anthea Clarke leads a beginners’ residential art course with an emphasis on fun and relaxation.

Festival Director Matthew McAllister opens the concert series with a recital of solo and chamber music for guitar.

As is now Classical Guitar Retreat tradition, Matthew will be joined by members of Frevo Quartet for the opening night concert.

James Aker
Music for Theorbo, Lute, Baroque Guitar and Vihuela

8pm Friday 9 July

Leading Scottish Lutenist James Akers will perform a recital of music for four early instruments from the family of the guitar, which will sound spectacular in the Cathedral acoustic.

James will also be performing repertoire from his most recent recording 'Thesaurus Harmonicus'.

Faculty Concert

Allan Neave directs and performs in the CGR Faculty Concert which features a variety of solo, duo and trio performances from the wonderful group of teachers at Classical Guitar Retreat.

The Classical Guitar Retreat Faculty Concert will be home to some very interesting collaborations interwoven with a selection of solo works performed by Allan.

Classical Guitar Retreat is delighted to welcome David Russell back to Scotland to give his first recital here for well over a decade.

World renowned for his superb musicianship and inspired artistry, David has earned the highest praise from audiences and critics alike.

In recognition of his great talent and international career, he was named a Fellow of The Royal Academy of Music in London in 1997 and won a prestigious Grammy Award in 2005.
